I love love love this line from R’ Yitzchok Berkovits! My husband and I (along with quite a few members of the TYH Chevra!) had the privilege of being part of R’ Berkovits’ Jerusalem Kollel while living in Israel. R’ Berkovits has taken achrayus for Klal Yisroel in a big way, and leads a movement reconnecting Neshamos back to Hashem on multiple fronts. He is the Rosh Yeshiva of Aish Hatorah — a worldwide, global Kiruv movement that engages millions of Jews. He’s also the Rosh Kollel of The Jerusalem Kollel, a Halacha and Semicha Kollel that trains husbands and wives to go out and do Kiruv. In addition to that, he is the Rav of a shul in Sanhedria Murchevet, and a massive Posek and Daas Torah for the Anglo community and Jews worldwide.
R’ Berkovits has taken ‘Ahavas Chinam,’ a concept that sounds like a nice soundbite that we all just accept at face value, and pushes us to really consider it. Why bother going for baseless, generic, love when there are so many things to actually love about another Yid? Contemplate the good you can find in another, and it won’t take you very long before you have so much to focus on, the good feelings will just bubble up within you. We are all part of one organism. We don’t need to push ourselves to love one another, we are one another. We can just open our eyes, and let ourselves notice it. See the Good!
