Daniella’s Story as told to Sara Klarberg

I was done studying. And not because I had actually studied enough. I knew I hadn’t. But Ivrit was hard for me, and I could not review the booklet anymore. I was done.

Walking into school for the midterm, I was preparing myself for the worst. I reviewed my plan again. Fill in the words I knew. (That list I had memorized.) Leave the paragraph to write last. (That was going to be a disaster.) And, hope for the best on the shailos (questions), which would all be in Hebrew and had to be answered in Hebrew.

As I walked in Rivkie came running up to me. “Helppppp!” she moaned, in her regular dramatic tone. “I don’t know anything! I’m going to fail.”

Rivkie was a ton of fun, but schoolwork was definitely not her thing. And, she failed a lot. She probably hadn’t studied much, and I doubted anything I told her now would help.

“Answer these shailos for me.” She begged, shoving a paper with 3 questions into my hand. I looked at the paper, took a minute to figure out what the questions meant, realized I didn’t have an answer, and walked with Rivkie to ask another friend to answer them.

She helped us both with the answers, and I headed to the classroom for the midterm.

Five minutes later, as I looked over the test, I realized Rivkie was Hashem’s messenger to help me. All three questions she asked me were on the test, and now I knew them!

I still haven’t gotten the test back, but those questions may very well have been the difference between passing and failing. And, if Rivkie hadn’t asked them to me, I would never have known them.

Sometimes, it’s in the tiny moments that we have to notice Hashem helping us. I know my story isn’t like being saved from a plane crash, but it’s one of the signs I get to see on a regular day of how much Hashem loves us. These small things are a gift from Hashem. Let’s look for them and thank Hashem each time they happen.

What I learned:
