Sparks Chapter : 10

Timeless August 9, 2025

Baruch landed on familiar ground. He was home! And boy was he excited! Well, technically, he was in Mr. Shpeiter’s basement, but that didn’t matter. It had been so long since he was home.

He forgot all about the Time Machine for a little bit and ran as fast as he could, up the stairs and down the block to his house. He ran upstairs to his room. It was dark and he was ready for bed. He was exhausted! He pulled out the pieces of paper he had collected through his adventures and set them on his bedside table, said “Shema” and snuggled in for some well deserved sleep. When suddenly…. He began to spin!

He landed in a packed Beis Medrash, and was suddenly very thankful he hadn’t changed his clothes, even though no one could see him. The atmosphere was sad and intense, and from the Yid crying at the microphone in front of the room, he realized he was at a levaya… of… Rav Aharon Kotler! Baruch was simply flabbergasted. He did not know how to react. Bochurim stood crying all around him. Baruch was not prepared for this at all. The next speaker shuffled up to the microphone. His beautiful white flowing beard, and shining face looked very familiar. It was Rav Nosson Wachtfogel, the famed mashgiach of Lakewood Yeshiva! Rav Nosson began to speak.

“One of the avreichim in the Kollel shared his dream with me a while ago. I never shared it because of Rav Aharon’s kavod, but now, it is time to share it. He dreamt he was in a room, and on a bed in the middle of the room there was an elderly Yid sleeping. He knew immediately that this Yid was Moshiach. Suddenly, the door opened and in walked the Chasam Sofer. The Chasam Sofer rushed to the bed, and began to shake the sleeping Yid. “Wake up! Please, Klal Yisrael needs you!” But the man didn’t budge. After a while, in walked Rav Aharon Kotler. Rav Aharon tried valiantly to wake Moshiach, but nothing worked.

Suddenly, the door opened, and in walked an American kid. He was wearing a T-shirt and a baseball cap. He saw Moshiach sleeping and he rushed over. “Please wake up!” He shouted, and began to shark Moshiach awake, and… Moshiach woke up.

Rav Nosson cried to the crowd,”Moshiach didn’t come for the Chasam Sofer, and he did not come for Rav Aharon. But this dream is absolutely true! Moshiach is coming. And he is coming for you! Moshiach will come for the children of Golus no matter where they live, who bring light into this world with their Torah, their middos, their chessed and their mitzvos. Hashem obviously chose us, and He knows who He picked. We will be the ones to bring Moshiach!” Rav Nosson had tears in his eyes. “It’s been so long! So many years since we’ve been home! But Moshiach will come and he will come… for you!”

Baruch wiped away a tear from his eyes. He ached so badly to go home to Yerushalayim. And he knew it would be the children – just like him, who weren’t “perfect” – that would make it happen. He felt something in his pocket. Another note! The letter “hey!” Suddenly very alert, Baruch hoped the next stop would be Yerushalayim. His exhaustion melted away. He began to spin….
