‘Beraishis bara Elokim… Hashem created the entire world in honor of ‘raishis.’ Who is this lucky Reishis? Its us, Klal Yisrael. We are the reason the world was created. We are the reason the planets orbit, the rain falls, and the birds soar.
We are the soul of the whole entire world.
Why? Why would Hashem go to all those lengths for us?
Every brushstroke of creation, every natural wonder and breathtaking masterpiece that dots this glorious planet is precisely for that — to be breathtaking. So that we then catch our breath and turn our eyes up to the Artist behind it all, and speak to Him.
No rules. No formulas. Just talking to Him, and inviting Him into our human experience. Sharing with Him what it’s like for us here, in this physical world wherein His presence is everywhere, but masked. He’s waiting for us to make that connection, for it creates a yichud, a unity, between two polarities; the Infinite finds expression in the finite.
One could ostensibly go 120 years without ever acknowledging the Creator behind it all. But the world needs us to bind it to its creator. You think the flowers this Shabbos are beautiful? Tell Him. The sourdough came out perfect this week? Tell Him! He’s behind it all… waiting.
