The passuk tells us that the Torah is very close to us: “Ki karov eilecha.” It isn’t overseas or in the sky. The seforim learn from these amazing pesukim that we shouldn’t strive only for “big” or “grand” mitzvos, things that seem to be in Shamayim, Heaven, or overseas. Rather, we should cherish every single mitzvah, even something that is easy and close by!
This is a great hachana, preparation, for Rosh Hashanah. We shouldn’t come with an attitude of, “I am going to become a perfect tzadik overnight!” Don’t search only for a total change on all fronts, because then nothing is going to happen. Rather, try to do teshuvah and become close to Hashem from where you are. Change the things that are karov, close, to you!
