In order to beat the fight with the klippos, we must remember what Chazal teach us (Succah 52a): יצרו של אדם מתגבר עליו ,בכל יום … ואלמלא הקדוש ברוך הוא שעוזר לו, אינו יכול לו, “A person’s evil inclination overcomes him each day… And if not for the Holy One, Blessed be He, Who assists him, he would not overcome it.”
It is not possible for a person to win over the yetzer hara alone. It can only be done with the help of Hashem. If one enters a fight with the yetzer hara with the mindset that he will win the battle due to his strengths, he will surely not succeed.
We need to enter the battle with the clear understanding that we can only win with Hashem by our side, helping us. We need to do our part to fight, but at the same time, we can never forget the true Source of success.
One who understands this will always daven for Hashem’s help even before he faces a spiritual challenge. And certainly, during a challenge, he will ask Hashem for help in overcoming it.
We should keep this tefillah on our lips throughout the battle, without letting up until the challenge is over! Talking to Hashem and asking for His help during a spiritual test is the key to success, and serves as a rope that attaches us to Him. If we hold on tightly to this rope without letting go throughout the test, we will surely pass the test.
We should follow the lead of Dovid Hamelech, and do what he did throughout the entire book of Tehillim — he poured out his heart before his Creator, begging Hashem to be with him and help him overcome his challenges.
Hashem is our Father, and He waits eagerly for every single word that comes out of the mouths of His beloved children.
If one enters a fight with the yetzer hara with the mindset that he will win the battle due to his strengths, he will surely not succeed.
