…Eat Chometz all year if it represents something bad
WHOA! That’s an AMAZING QUESTION! Ok, first let me wipe off my keyboard from chometzdig fingerprints… The truth is… we do. I’ll explain. Chometz represents sheker and matzah represents emes. Throughout the year, while we don’t love it, we make mistakes; maybe we don’t listen the way we should, or run as quickly as we want to to do the right thing. Let’s admit it! It happens to everyone! We live in a chometz world. On Pesach, we get the chance to see the world differently. Matzah has the same ingredients as chometz, just without all the “fluff.” Yet matzah is the holiest food that we eat all year! According to some Tzadikim, every bite is another mitzvah – throughout Yom Tov! Matzah is simple – no fluff, no fake – no sheker. Matzah is pure. On Pesach, when we eat matzah, we get to see that we can be even greater than we thought.
Maybe in a simple way, if we ate matzah all year, we would miss the reminder. The change from chometz to matzah, and all the effort we put in to make that change, serves to remind us: During the year, maybe we get used to certain behaviors – but we aren’t stuck with them! It may take some work, but everyone of us has a sparkling Holy Neshamah!
Then, after Pesach, we are ready to “face” chometz again – armed with all that matzah-ness. We can eat chometz without acting like chometz – just a little more – now that we have seen a little more how great we can be!
