Siach Sarfei Kodesh

Imagine the conversation happening in the local shul during the Purim story.  A yid walks in to tell everyone how Vashti was summoned to the king but was put to death for refusing to go.  The other guys in shul probably responded “Hock mir nisht in kup arein mit deine shtusim (Stop driving us crazy with your nonsense).”  

Only later on they were able to look back and see that this surprising incident with Vashti was the planting of the salvation before the decree against the Yidden was even given. 

And so it will be with the upcoming geula. Right now we hear the news and we say, “Hock mir nisht in kup arein mit deine shtusim,”  but very soon Moshiach will come, and we’ll look back and understand.

After Shacharis and Megillah on Purim morning, the Komarna Rebbe would sit in hisbodedus wearing his tallis and teffilin until Mincha, and then go home and sit at his Purim seudah for 12 hours. 

Zera Kodesh

One who desires to sit in hisbodedus and talk to Hashem on Purim, but is not on the level to be able to do so, should know that even just the desire that they have itself is extremely valuable in the eyes of Hashem. Such a person should spend a few minutes asking Hashem to draw him closer and help him discover how to pour out his heart directly to Hashem, and certainly Hashem will have compassion on him.

The Purim story showed us that even if a decree against the Jewish people is written and sealed, through davening and teshuvah the Jewish people can open a closed gate, and even a wall of iron can not separate the Jewish people from their Father in Heaven.

On Purim you should daven for all the ‘extra’ things that you didn’t daven for all year because you thought you were not worthy of receiving it from Hashem. This is the time of “kol haposhet yad nosnim lo, whoever reaches out his hand is given,” a time when your requests are not analyzed against your merits.

While listening to the Megillah,commit yourself to follow the Torah and mitzvos, just as the Jewish people recommitted to the Torah after the Purim story. What happened in the past is irrelevant; from this moment onwards, we recommit to Hashem!

Achashveirosh was told about the Jewish people “v’daseihem shonos mekol am v’es dasei hamelech einom osim, their laws are different from the other nations and the laws of the king they do not follow.” “Das,” meaning “laws,” is also a reference to the various holidays the Jewish people keep, such as Pesach, to celebrate their freedom from the decrees of Pharoah. One can say in a lighthearted way that Achashveirosh was being told about the Jew “v’daseihem shonos mekol am, the Yidden already have created holidays on behalf of their salvation from every other country, but v’es dasei hamelech einom osim, there is not yet a holiday that was established for the Jew on account of King Achasveirosh, so it is time to make a decree so the Jews can be saved and have another Yom Tov!
