Why Are So Many People Learning Likutei Moharan Today?

Rebbe Nachman said that Likutei Moharan was “the beginning of the geulah”, and that when his sefer spreads in the world, people can begin to look out for Moshiach. As we get closer and closer to the coming of Moshiach, and geulah energy and consciousness continues to spread, Am Yisrael are finally beginning to discover the awesome treasure of sefer Likutei Moharan. I like to call it “a miracle in a sefer,” because it is so totally extraordinary. It’s really impossible to describe how unique the sefer is – in its methodology, depth, breadth, ability to demonstrate the total unity of the entire Torah, shocking relevance to the struggles of our generation. It is genuinely unparalleled and belongs in a category of its own. Much like Yosef was tragically sidelined by his brothers, the Satan has succeeded in keeping Rebbe Nachman and his redemptive Torah hidden from the “mainstream” of Am Yisrael in so many unfortunate ways. But today, things are changing. I’m privileged to give a daily shiur in the sefer here in London. Within two weeks of opening a WhatsApp chat for the livestream and recordings of the shiur, we reached over 500 members. Two weeks later, we were at 700+. The feedback has been absolutely incredible. In a world where everything is “life-changing”, this Torah is, in the most literal sense, completely transformative. And I believe with all my heart and soul that this is just the very, very beginning. 

Sefer HaMiddos 

In this unique sefer, also known as “Sefer Ha’Aleph Beis”, Rebbe Nachman presents a collection of statements about various middos, advice, guidance, and segulos. The first volume was written by the Rebbe before his Bar Mitzvah, but he did not include his sources. In 1876, the Rav of Tcherin published a new edition of Sefer HaMiddos with sources for most of the teachings. The range is staggering, demonstrating an encyclopedic grasp of and penetrating insight into kol haTorah kulah. In 1908, R’ Tzadok HaKohen of Lublin added to the Tcheriner Rav’s footnotes. 

Sippurei Maasios 

Rebbe Nachman once said, “The world tells stories to put people to sleep, but I tell stories to wake people up!” In this collection of his epic original stories, Rebbe Nachman uses the most incredible symbolism to express the deepest Kabbalistic thoughts. Even if we are not able to understand the depth of these exalted stories, their meaning is understood by the soul and stirs our neshamos to great longing for Hashem.

Likutei Moharan 

Rebbe Nachman’s main work contains 411 lessons that range from lengthy and complex lessons spanning many pages, to short paragraphs with simple advice. This sefer is unique among all the sifrei Chassidus in several ways. For example, the teachings are not arranged by parsha or topic. Instead, each of the longer lessons is a kaleidoscopic tapestry of pesukim and maamarei chazal that join together to reveal completely unique and novel “structures” of Torah thought. There is really nothing quite like it.

This fascinating sefer contains biographical information about Rebbe Nachman’s life, as well as many assorted teachings, parables, and sayings.

Originally printed as an appendix to Sippurei Maasoiyos, this sefer is an important collection of the Tzadik’s shorter teachings and anecdotes. 

Kitzur Likutei Moharan 

This sefer, a summary of Likutei Moharan, was written by Reb Nosson to enable people to easily review the main points of Rebbe Nachman’s lessons.

Likutei Eitzos 

In this sefer, Reb Nosson mines the riches of Likutei Moharan, extracting all the practical advice and arranging it according to various topics.

Likutei Tefillos

In this stunning collection of tefillos, Reb Nosson follows the Rebbe’s advice to “turn Torah into tefillah” by composing a prayer for every lesson in Likutei Moharan. The idea is to learn one of Rebbe Nachman’s lessons with all of the levels and avodos they describe, and then immediately say the corresponding tefillah, asking Hashem to help us fulfill what we’ve learned.
