The Rashab of Lubavitch had tremendous ahavas Yisroel. He always looked for ways to help every Yid and never differentiated between an important person and a “simple” Yid.
One day, a prominent chassid was speaking with the Rebbe. The Rebbe spoke about how much he loved simple Yidden. The chassid thought the Rebbe was exaggerating and said, “I don’t understand why the Rebbe is so excited about these people. Some of them have many faults.”
The Rebbe replied, “I see that they are full of mitzvos.” “I don’t see that,” said the chassid.
The Rebbe then asked him, “Aren’t you a diamond dealer? Show me your diamonds.” The chassid showed the Rebbe a few diamonds, and while looking through them, he pointed to one and said, “This is a truly amazing diamond.”
The Rebbe answered, “I don’t see anything special about it.” “Rebbe,” said the chassid, “you need to be an expert in diamonds to appreciate it.”
The Rebbe smiled and said, “Every Yid is a beautiful diamond. If you cannot see it, it means you are not yet an expert in Yidden.”
Our tzadikim always show us how to advocate for Yidden, and our job is to become “an expert in Yidden” so that we can always see the good and stand up for our fellow Yidden.
