8 Nights of Inner Light

Rav DovBer Pinson December 20, 2025

1st Night

Miracle Awareness

The Chanukah lights remind us to look for the miracles already unfolding in our lives and to notice how we are guided, protected, and sustained.

Tonight’s Exercise

  •  Think of a recent miracle that you’ve experienced.
  • Reflect on a situation that you felt guided by Hashem.
  • Recall a moment when you felt protected by Hashem.

2nd Night

Healing Vision

The lights of the Menorah have the power to heal our eyes, and to rectify and undo the damage
of any negative sight or vision.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Think of a memory that is weighing on you.
  • Notice how this memory lives and feels inside you.
  • Gaze at the holy flames and allow them to cleanse and restore your vision.

Thank You Hashem for this healing opportunity.

3rd Night

All Is Divine Light

As the Menorah fills your vision, remember that all of existence is filled with the Infinite Light of Hashem.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Think of one blessing in your life.
  • Think of one challenge in your life.
  • Recognize that all blessings and challenges come from one loving Source.

Thank You Hashem for everything in my life.

4th Night

Being Present

The gentle sight and subtle sounds of the menorah invite us to slow down, relax into the present moment, and become more introspective.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Find a comfortable seat by the Menorah.
  • Take a deep breath and fix your eyes on one holy flame.
  • Simply watch the flame and notice its subtle movements.

Thank You Hashem for this moment, here and now.

5th Night

Unity of Body and Soul

Just as a flame cannot manifest without wick and oil, in order to manifest our soul we must attach it to physicality by means of selfless noble actions.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Think of one positive action you did today.
  • Notice how that “oil” strengthened your body and soul’s connection.
  • Appreciate the unity of body and soul through that action.

Thank You Hashem for the alignment of my body and soul.

6th Night

Yearning & Returning

Within the flickering flame is ratzu and shuv — the yearning to rise and the returning to center. This is the rhythm of the soul — reaching up and coming home.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Ask: What is my deepest yearning?
  • Is that desire for physical comfort and pleasure or something deeper?
  • Now ask: How does that desire align with my purpose in this world?

Thank You Hashem for my soul’s yearning and returning.

7th Night

Where Is Your Light?

The flames of the Menorah gently invite us to turn our attention inward and behold the luminous potential of our souls — a hidden light deep within us, a light that is always there.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Ask yourself: Where am I in my life’s journey right now?
  • Bring to mind a moment when you shone brightly.
  • Now ask: How can I shine my inner light a bit brighter?

Thank You Hashem for the light within me, and my ability to shine.

8th Night

The Five Aspects of Light

Each flame holds 5 layers of Divine expression. Every color of the flame’s light mirrors a dimension of your own being, from your hidden essence to your outer expression in the world.

Tonight’s Exercise

  • Look at the whole flame and ask: Who am I in essence, beneath all my roles?
  • How can I reflect that essence in thought, speech and action?
  • Recognize the steady brilliance of your soul co-exists with all the ups and downs in life.

Thank You Hashem for all the parts of my soul that make me ME.
