Why Do We?

Mention Yetzias Mitzrayim so often?

Now that’s a good question! The Sefer Hachinuch says something super important. He says, “Adam nifal lifi peulosav,” which means that a person acts according to his actions, which sounds confusing. But not really! A person acts according to how he feels, and he feels according to the way he acts! For example let’s consider your davening. If you daven with energy and excitement, even if you don’t feel so into it (maybe even shuckel a little ;)), your insides will start to get used to getting excited about davening, and before you know it, you’ll be more excited about davening than before! The same goes for Yetzias Mitzrayim. Yetzias Mitzrayim reminds us that Hashem can do anything and everything. It’s all about emunah and bitachon in Hashem: He can split the Yam Suf. He can make wild animals run around with their habitats in Mitzrayim. He can make fire and ice hail together – anything – mammish anything!  This is Yiddishkeit ABC’s! Emunah and bitachon!  So we repeat it again and again and again. We lein the parshiyos of Yetzias Mitzrayim, then go over everything again a few weeks later at the seder (twice!)  We say Shema twice a day, we make kiddush on Shabbos and Yomtov and mention Yetzias Mitzrayim in both. We mention it in bentching. This is all so that it goes into our BONES! Hashem runs the world. He loves us. He took us out of Mitzrayim and can always help us… and He can do anything!
