YOSSI: Wow Yoeli! It’s good to see you! Lishana tova tikasev v’sichasem l’alter – lchaim tovim ulishalom! A good Yomtov!
YOELI: Amen! You too Yossi! I’m so excited to hear the shofar tomorrow! When we blow the shofar it “reminds” Hashem of akeidas Yitzchok – when Yitzchok was brought as a korban – right here, on Rosh Hashanah, in Yerushalayim – on the Har Habayis!
YOSSI: And Hashem put a ram in front of Avraham to shecht instead, and the shofar comes from a ram!
YOELI: Yes! Also, Avraham Avinu was the amud hachessed – no one did chesed better than Avraham Avinu – yet when Hashem said to bring Yitzchok as a korban, which went against his kind nature, he did it right away! Sometimes, we’d rather play than listen to our parents or do a mitzvah… but when we do that mitzvah anyway, we show that our love of Hashem is greater than what we want! Even if it’s for only a moment, we are following in the footsteps of Avraham Avinu!
YOSSI: That sounds like solid teshuva to me, Yoeli!
YOELI: My Zaide said that the two horns of the ram Avraham brought as a korban were used for two special events by Hashem: the left horn was the shofar at Har Sinai! The right horn will be blown when Moshiach comes!
YOSSI: Wow, the shofar really reminds us of so much – the Akeida, Har Sinai, Moshiach; And when that second shofar blows, the whole world will know that Hashem is the King of the world! Which is really the main thing we daven for on Rosh Hashanah; let’s hope this year is the year we all go home!
