Finding Hashem Within

Wisdom

We all go through moments when we feel like Hashem is distant and out of reach. I’ve found that a powerful way to reconnect with Hashem is to remind myself that He is not somewhere “out there” that I need to go out and find. Hashem is never distant or out of reach.

The Tzadikim teach us that our neshamah is a cheleck Elokai Memal mamash, an actual portion of Hashem. If I want to search for Hashem, if I want to reconnect to G-dliness, there is nowhere I need to go – I can simply look inward, and reconnect with my true self, my cheleck Elokai Memal mamash.

Integration Tool

Try this guided meditation to help you reconnect with Hashem: Get yourself into a comfortable place where you won’t be bothered for a few minutes. Practice a few deep breaths and let your body relax fully from the top of your head down to your toes.

In this neshamah meditation, you’ll picture that you are going up four levels, like climbing a ladder.  The four letter name of Hashem is the portal whereby all light enters the world. By accessing these letters during our exploration, we are essentially connecting to the very fabric of creation, at its highest level. With this in mind we are going to add Hashem’s name to this meditation to bring Hashem into it fully.

While you are up here, you may as well spend some time talking to Hashem, before gently climbing back down the ladder.

Level 4: “Everything is One/Ein Od Milvado.” At this final level you enter the “Yud” of Hashem’s name, and in this place it is fully clear to you that everything is Hashem.  Everything that you perceive as good and bad in your life, and in the world, is all good: it is all from Hashem. You feel light, clarity and pure emunah in
this place.

Level 3: “Hashem loves me.” Now you see the higher letter “Heh” of Hashem’s name. You enter into it, and you get a feeling of Hashem’s pure and unconditional love for you filling you up. You feel that Hashem loves all of you: all your parts, particularly the ones you feel are “bad” because you realize here that Hashem created all of you and knows that from your darkest parts, specifically, will come your biggest light.

Level 2: “All I want is Hashem.” Now, picture a beautiful letter “Vav.”  You float up to it and enter inside it.  Inside, you notice a clarity that everything you have ever wanted in life is just Hashem. Anything you ran after in your past was just because you thought Hashem was there.  All your desires at this level become clear – “I just want Hashem.”

Level 1: “I am a neshamah.” Picture above you a beautiful letter “Heh.” This is the last letter of Hashem’s name. You float up to this letter, and the closer you get to it, the more you realize how large it is.  You enter into it and look around. You notice that there is one message here. The message is “I am a neshamah.” You get the sense that you are not a physical being at all but a spiritual being, a holy neshamah, and this is fully who you are.
