Dovid Hamelech famously says in Tehillim (23),” ה׳ רֹעִי לֹא אֶחְסָר… גַּם כִּי אֵלֵךְ בְּגֵיא צַלְמָוֶת לֹא אִירָא רָע כִּי אַתָּה עִמָּדִי.”“Hashem is my shepherd, I do not lack… When Hashem is with me, I fear no one!” These words hit home because they sum up so much of what it means to live with faith. We’re like sheep—pretty vulnerable on our own. Life can feel chaotic and overwhelming at times. But just like a shepherd watches over his flock, Hashem watches over us with constant care and attention.

Think about what a shepherd does. He doesn’t just keep an eye on the sheep from a distance. He’s with them every step of the way, leading them to the best pastures, keeping them safe from predators, and making sure they’re healthy and cared for. That’s the kind of relationship we have with Hashem. When we realize this, it changes everything.

Knowing Hashem is always looking out for us gives us a sense of security that’s hard to describe. Life throws challenges at us—big ones, small ones, and everything in between. But when we remind ourselves that we’re not facing those challenges alone, the fear starts to fade. As Dovid Hamelech says, “When Hashem is with me, I fear no one!” It’s not about pretending life is easy or that problems don’t exist. It’s about realizing that Hashem’s got our back no matter what.

The big problems don’t feel quite so overwhelming, and even the little everyday moments start to feel more meaningful.
